It was reported in today’s Independent that the implementation of water charges will be postponed until the end of 2014 or the start of 2015. The report indicated government fear of a public backlash:
“Ministers are concerned about a possible backlash from the public about the new tax coming so soon after the introduction of the controversial property tax.”
This is nothing more than a pre local election ploy to delay the introduction of yet another tax when people and the economy are struggling with high employment and reduced incomes.
