The development of a world class downhill mountain biking track & associated cross country trail in Glenflesk has been in the pipeline for a number of years. Through my involvement with The South Kerry Development Partnership, €30,000 was secured for a feasibility study to be completed. In 2011 Failte Ireland approved €430,000 in grant funding to the project. Regrettably progress to date has been slow.
I have recently been in contact with Failte Ireland in relation to obtaining a status update, and also to ensure that the funding is still in place. I have been informed that the funding is secured and that the tendering process has been completed with companies being nominated for elements of the project. My understanding is that the promoters are aiming to complete this project for the Adventure Travel World Summit later this year.
